Cornwall Flying Club's large fleet covers a wide range of aircraft. The simplest airplanes, and the kind you will be training in, are called "fixed-gear singles" in reference to their landing gear. Fixed gear means you can't retract the wheels. These types of airplanes are economical and tend to be easier to handle, making them an ideal starting point for getting your license.

The most common 2-seat trainers belong to the Cessna 150 family the other is our Robin 2160. You might opt to learn in a slightly larger 4-seat aircraft such as a Cessna 172. This aircraft is also cost effective and easy to operate, but it's larger engines let it carry more people and more fuel. The most obvious difference between the Cessna and the Robin is that a Cessna has a "high-wing" design (the fuselage is below the wing), while the Robin is a "low-wing" with the fuselage on top of the wing. There are advantages and disadvantages to each, so it's really a matter of personal preference.
